Polycystic ovary syndrome PCOS is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age that can be cured by PCOS Treatment Pakistan. How does PCOS progress, and how to recognize it? Is it possible to completely recover from polycystic ovaries?
Polycystic ovary syndrome – what is it?
Polycystic ovary syndrome is characterized by menstrual and ovulatory disorders, enlargement and polycystic ovaries, fertility disorders, obesity, and androgen excess (excessive hair growth). It is otherwise called PCOS ( polycystic ovary syndrome ) or polycystic ovarian disease.
During the reproductive period, women with this syndrome are most at risk of infertility and, in the later period, an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and even mental disorders.
Causes of polycystic ovary syndrome
PCOS has a multifactorial background – genetic, metabolic, endocrine, and environmental. Some characteristics of polycystic ovary syndrome are inherited; other causes include hypothalamic-pituitary disorders (increased LH and decreased FSH) and excessive production of male sex steroids.
Less explored causes include too much consumption of soy products and thyroid disease with deficiency of iodine and fT3 hormone (needed for the proper functioning of the ovaries). A significant zinc deficiency, excess exercise, strict reduction diets, and too little starch may also play a role.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) symptoms
The symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome are hirsutism, i.e., excessive male pattern hair, juvenile acne, male pattern baldness, rare menstruation, irregular, sometimes excessive or on the contrary – scanty menstrual bleeding, sometimes amenorrhea with chronic anovulation, and infertility.
In addition, PCOS is accompanied by obesity of various degrees, mainly abdominal. It may appear with age type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and lipid disorders.
PCOS diagnosis
The diagnosis of PCOS must always be a diagnosis with the exclusion of other causes of hyperandrogenism and confirmation of an ovarian cause of excess androgens. It cannot be limited to determining total serum testosterone concentration (testosterone also occurs in free and protein-bound forms).
Ovarian ultra is a mandatory criterion for diagnosing PCOS – large follicles and increased ovarian volume are present. However, it should be remembered that the picture of polycystic ovaries can occur in 30% of healthy women without PCOS syndrome.
Polycystic ovary syndrome and pregnancy and fertility
Menstrual cycle disorders with ovulation disorders, and even their complete absence, lead to infertility. In infertile women with PCOS (infertility affects about 60% of women with PCOS) and obesity or overweight, the most important treatment is weight reduction.
In PCOS, we are dealing with a vicious circle mechanism because the excess of androgens promotes fat accumulation in the abdominal cavity, which in turn causes insulin resistance and compensatory hyperinsulinism, and further weight gain.
In the treatment of fertility disorders in PCOS patients, ovulation induction. Approximately 30% of patients become pregnant after treatment.
In patients who do not respond to pharmacological treatment, surgical treatment is used – during laparoscopy, i.e., wedge resection of the ovaries. Pregnancy occurs in about 50% of patients after surgical treatment.
Treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome
There is a complete cure for polycystic ovary syndrome with help of IVF in Lahore. Treatment of PCOS is mainly symptomatic, and the entire treatment must be individually tailored to the patient’s needs. Hirsutism is difficult to treat with hormonal therapy: the primary goal of treatment is to normalize the level of androgens (e.g., using oral contraceptives), and the treatment itself is long-term.
Pharmacological treatment is also used in the treatment of acne in PCOS. Weight loss is significant in the case of carbohydrate metabolism disorders.
In the case of infertility and lack of effectiveness of hormonal preparations, surgical treatment is used, e.g., electrocoagulation of cystic changes in the ovaries (overgrown follicles).
Nutrition for PCOS
Proper nutrition in PCOS is a significant factor in treatment. Weight reduction is substantial – it has been proven that even 5-10% weight loss can restore ovulation, thus increasing the possibility of getting pregnant by about 50%.
Here, the most important is to limit the consumption of carbohydrates (straightforward ones) and a diet based on low glycemic indexes, high fiber intake, and regular, frequent, small meals. You can never forget the right amount of exercise, sleep, and drinking water. Starvation should be avoided.
Some authors emphasize the importance of limiting the amount of gluten and dairy in the diet and highly processed foods. It is essential to have the right proportion of fats in your diet and to limit these animal, saturated, and Tran’s fats.
