Dordle, a new and more difficult word game, has the potential to become an obsession of yours. Wordle, a free puzzle game you can play on the web, has blown up in popularity. It’s become so popular that even Google has paid tribute to it with an interesting Easter egg. Although the restriction to once each day is appreciated by some, it leaves others wanting. Dordle is a new, more difficult word game that has the potential to become an addiction.

There will inevitably be Wordle clones since the concept is so appealing. People have also been known to “hack” the game by discovering the game’s word list and foreseeing the following day’s problem.

What makes Dordle so special?

To begin with, instead of just one Daily Dordle, you’ll get two in this game. The caveat is that you have to submit your predictions for both at the same time. As you enter your best guess into the puzzle, it will highlight the letters that are accurate, incorrect, or misplaced throughout both words.

Seven chances are given rather than the normal five since you are attempting to predict two words simultaneously. Zaratustra Productions’ Guilherme Tows calls his game “wordle plus wordle,” and it’s easy to see why. In addition to their reverse Tetris web game, Zaratustra Productions has released a slew of additional puzzle games, platformers, and more for the internet.

The game was a big deal in dordle

You may play as much as you want in “free dordle” mode, which is separate from the “daily dordle” mode. The same principle applies: you’ll be given two words and given seven chances to correctly pick one of them. A true fanatic has even managed to unlock both dordles at once, coining the term “Quadordle.”

The ability to “social cheat” the game was a big deal in dordle, but it wasn’t in its inspiration. When you’ve completed the day’s problem in wordle, you may go back to the game page to see how close you came to the correct answer. In dordle, though, you may easily win with only two guesses by going back after your first attempt.

I just made myself feel better with one of them

In the same way that I like reading about the wacky ideas people have concocted about Wordle after it was bought by the New York Times, I also enjoy finding people who are building more challenging versions of the game. In the aftermath of Dordle, which only provided two Wordles at a time, Quordle, in which you answer four Wordles simultaneously, has become rather popular. Toss everything out the window, however, since the true gamers in Octordle are tackling eight riddles at once.

Seems impossible, and according to Einstein’s laws, it probably is, but it turns out to be true. You have 13 guesses to use across eight distinct Wordle grids at once, trying to find the same eight words.

As you would expect, this opens up a whole new arsenal of strategies for use with Wordle. Think again about how significant that first word was before you had to worry about it spanning eight different beginnings. So, how about plan B? Do you enter a whole different set of five letters (thus indicating that you’re not playing Wordle on its relatively buried “Hard Mode”), or do you go right into trying to find a solution? Is it time to add a third initial word, so that you may use as many letters as possible?

In a low voice: “how about four?”

Similar to Quordle, where you tackle four problems at simultaneously (using eight guesses each time), the grid locks after you have the right answer to one question, allowing you to focus on only that. Of course, with eight times as many answers to uncover, it substantially increases the likelihood that you will also receive an uncomfortable term, so you may need to adapt your strategies accordingly. Might it help to use more cryptic letters at the beginning, so that they may be caught as soon as possible? (Not if we believe these numbers.)

I don’t think I do so well at it. One of the grids always seems more difficult than the others, and I end up neglecting the other seven in favor of a single, obsessive search for a solution. Yet, despite all that, I managed to win the game in the end. It has taken me by surprise more than anybody else. (But, not today. Totally forgot two words.
